Meet the creative family team behind Sammy and the Flying Ring. Author Sandy Brown and illustrator EJ Henderson have combined storytelling and charming artwork to inspire children and families to care for seals, protect marine wildlife and make safer choices at the seaside.

Sandy Brown
Sammy's story began many years before the first words ever reached the page!
A lifelong lover of books, Sandy had always dreamed of writing a children's story of her own. As a mum of three and granny to four, books, storytelling and sharing stories with children have remained a special part of our family life.
The inspiration for 'Sammy' originated from family holidays in St Ives, Cornwall, where seals can often be spotted around the harbour, following the fishing boats in the hope of finding a tasty treat. Whenever a seal appeared, the family affectionately called it “Sammy” (and the name stuck!). Years later, with her youngest daughter Emma-Jayne, Sandy finally put pen to paper,
and Sammys adventures began.

EJ spent many a childhood family holiday in St Ives and loved drawing the seals she spotted around the harbour.
Developing her creative work as an illustrator, EJ encouraged her mum to finally turn her long held idea into a children's book.Bringing those childhood memories to life, Sammy and Sully and their coastal adventures were created by mother and daughter, inspired by a place they have loved and returned to for generations.
A family story, a shared love of the coast and St Ives and a little seal with a massive message!
